Kathleen
Meehan Arias, MS, CIC
Kathy Arias has worked in the infection
prevention and control field for 26 years and is currently the Director
of Arias Infection Control Consulting. She has infection prevention
and control experience in a variety of settings, including acute
care hospitals, long-term care, rehabilitation care, ambulatory
care and industry. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in
Medical Technology from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and
Science and a Master of Science Degree in Clinical Microbiology
from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. She is Certified
in Infection Control by the Certification Board of Infection Control.
Ms. Arias is the author of the Aspen Publishers textbook Quick
Reference to Outbreak Investigation and Control in Health Care Facilities
and the author of the APIC Tool Kit Surveillance Programs in
Healthcare Facilities. She is the editor and an author of the
APIC/Joint Commission Resources Infection Control Workbook
and the APIC Tool Kit Assessing and Developing an Infection Control
Program in the Acute Care Setting. She has authored journal
articles and book chapters on various infection control topics,
including the Surveillance chapter in the APIC Text of Infection
Control and Epidemiology.
Kathy is an active member of the Association for Professionals
in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) and serves as a faculty
member for several APIC courses. She is a frequent speaker at local,
national, and international conferences. Kathy currently serves
on an APIC Task Force that is developing a guide for eliminating
MRSA transmission in hospitals.
