A review of the national Surgical Infection Prevention Project and national data that was collected as a part of that project, as well as findings in the clinical literature. Also, a discussion of the transition of the Surgical Infection Prevention Project into the new Surgical Care Improvement Project that will focus on improving the outcomes for patients having surgery that goes beyond just preventing surgical infection.
